Branding – Darcy & Mouse Studio

Context:
For my business name, I created a name inspired by two personalities. ‘Darcy’ is refined and sophisticated while ‘Mouse’ is daring and bold. Both play into my design aesthetics and it was important to create a brand that personified this.
Brief:
To create a brand mark and identity that represents daring and boldness, creativity and versatility, referencing professionalism and sophistication.
Concept/Ideation:
Drawn thumbnails were created and eventually I started to create digital thumbnails once I was close to what I had in mind. I wanted to create a stacked word mark that was bold and balanced.
The narrowed down logo options included traditional Chinese characters (a literal translation) which paid homage to my heritage while also providing an international flair to the brand.

Outcome:
The Darcy&Mouse brand mark capture the personality traits and to some extent the values of the Brand Character. The brand mark looks simple, contemporary and bold. It is easy to read, uncomplicated and has a daring punchy voice.
The androgynous colour palette and typography contrasts well with the heaviness of the brand mark. Overall, it feels timeless and works on print, online applications and even signage presenting a premium, simple and smarter look.
